What is chiropractic care?
According to The Association of Chiropractic Colleges, "Chiropractic is a health care discipline which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs and surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health."

Chiropractic care utilizes key body maintenance methods (diet, exercise, posture, normal nerve function, etc.) to enhance the body's natural healing powers. Chiropractors, doctors who practice chiropractic, assist the body with normal function by working to correct spinal subluxations or spinal bones that have moved out of place. By correcting these issues of the spine and other areas in the body, you regain normal nerve function, in turn feeling relief from pain and other symptoms.

Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes, chiropractic adjustments performed properly by a professional chiropractor are safe. The chiropractic adjustment, at its core is non-surgical and drug-free, is safe for individuals of any age, from infant to elderly, and is even safe for women who are pregnant.

Should I use ice packs or heat wraps?
The answer to this question really depends on the injury, you should consider seeing or contacting Dr. Molitor if you are unsure of the proper treatment. A few things to remember:

  • Ice packs or cold applications assist in reducing swelling and are most commonly recommended for new injuries.
  • Heat wraps assist in relaxing and loosening tight tissues / muscles and are most commonly recommended for chronic pain and stiffness.

Can I receive chiropractic adjustments if I'm pregnant?
Yes, chiropractic adjustments are possible, safe and at times recommended during pregnancy. Many changes, both physically and hormonally, occur during pregnancy, including pelvic changes, posture adaptations, protruding abdomen and increased back curve. All of these developments can lead to misalignments in your spine and/or other joints, resulting in pain, pressure and discomfort for you and your baby. Chiropractic doctors utilize special treatment methods and equipment to provide spinal adjustments throughout all stages of pregnancy.

Once I start going to a chiropractor, do I have to continually keep going?
The overall answer to this is no, you ultimately get to make the final choice about your own health. That being said, most often your chiropractor will recommend a treatment plan suitable to your injury/condition. Treatment plans can range from a single visit to multiple visits over an extended period of time. Even once the pain has subsided the underlying reason for the pain can still be active; therefore, it is highly recommended to maintain regular chiropractic adjustments. Similar to going to the dentist, these regular appointments assist with injury prevention and lowering injury reoccurrence.

What Conditions can Chiropractic Treatments alleviate?
Chiropractic care goes far beyond simply correcting or assisting in back pain relief. Today's chiropractic treatments can assist in eliminating or relieving a vast array of pains, symptoms and conditions. From allergies to migraine headaches, from high blood pressure to stomach ulcers, and everything in between, chiropractic care may greatly alleviate these symptoms and many more.
